Gilera at the clinic

Gilera at the clinic

My Gilera has been feeling sick lately, suffering from multiple diseases. He got the Parkisons as well as the ‘Fart’inities.

The symptoms for the ‘Fart’inities is: a series of pops when the bike decelerates, similar to the sound of those noisy mat rempits when they try out the backfire. For me, I’m impressed that my bike can do that automatically. Hopefully I don’t offend or accidently challenge any bikers on the road with my ‘Fart’inities. Hee..

On the other hand, the Parkisons had caused my bike to shake tremendously with some metallic parts clanging. Only god knows at which part of my bike was it shaking. I though it was not serious. Maybe it was some loose parts of the bike. Previously, when I bought over the bike, the individual numbers on the number plate (which used to be metal characters screwed into the plate) used to vibrate causing the similar metallic clanging sound. I solved it by changing the characters from the metallic type to the sticker type.

At the bike shop, after changing the engine oil (which is long due by about 3 months!! Yikes!!) the mechanic told me that the Parkisons might be due to some loose metal parts at the belting area (similar to a bike chain). He suggested to me to allow him to ‘operate’ on the bike to better diagnose the problem. I hesitated at first as I feared it would take a long time to do the diagnosis and repair. As I was too lazy to come back to the bike ‘clinic’ for frequent check-ups, I decided to go for the operation to cure the Parkisons once and for all!

The mechanic opened the bike’s belt assembly cover. To my horror, I observed that the sponge filter that was supposed to sieve the air intake was badly damaged. Imagine having rummaged lungs. I thought that this might be the cause of the ‘fart’inities. After disassembling the screws, belting system and the clutch auto (The part where the bike chain loops at the front axle. Similar to the axle of a bicycle at the foot peddle area.), the mechanic discovered that the clutch auto was heavily worn out causing the part to be so loose that it was rubbing against the other metal parts. Sooner or later, the worn out part would give way. He said that if I had rode the bike till the part failed, it might cause the belt to tangle with the rotor parts causing the bike to skid. Sounds fatal and guess it was not B.S. Shucks..

After the change, the bike was cured of the Parkisons. Was I glad. Now I can corner my bike like mad.. (Kidding..) However, the ‘fart’inities was still there even though the mechanic and I ‘concurred’ that the damaged filter caused the ‘fart’inities. Nevertheless, I’m very happy that at least one of the recurring Parkisons disease is cured.

~~My Wan moment~~

If you guys know me very well, I have a lot of “Wan moments”. Problem is I don’t jot them down. I think if I were to keep a record of all my moments and translate it into a comic book, I’ll surely beat the likes of Lat and Lao Fu Tze. Hee..

So, I’ll begin by penning down a Wan moment that happened on 18/11/2007. I have a friend, Zulkarni who was getting married. He passed me his wedding card quite some time ago. The card was so nice and I tak sampai hati nak bukak. Maklumlah, wrapping dia cantik. (Actually I left the card in my bike and thus I kind of malas nak tengok.)

Last 2 weeks, in the midst of discussion on the topic of marriage, Khaidir mentioned about Imran’s wedding falling on the same day as Zul’s. I had the impression that Imran will be married in 2 week’s time (which will be the Sunday that just passed la). Last Thursday, i thought that Zul’s wedding would be in the coming Sunday. Hence, I asked my girlfriend along on the fateful day of Sunday.

On Sunday, I left my house in the afternoon. I prepared my ‘Ang Bao’ and wore nice nice for the occasion at Chevron. My girlfriend had worn nice nice oso. When I was going to meet Shidah, I felt that I should at least bring along the card in case there would be specific instruction regarding the venue. So, I went to take the card. Was I in shock when I realized that the wedding is on the 2/12!!! Shucks.. It was a hot day and I was wearing a dark top. Shidah already wore a baju kurung. To complement our dress code, the day was super hot!! Kaww.. Paise man. Shidah must be bingit with me. Luckily we did not go all the way to Chevron just to discover that it was not on the day itself. Kental man.. Hee.. sorry.. Wan moment.

5th Nov - Lousy start

Had a lousy start this morning. Feels like @#$% waking up in the morning. Went home late last night from jalan raya. Anyway, the jalan raya was superb. Caught up with old friends like Ashraf, Wahida etc.

However, this morning, it was raining quite heavily and my bike had trouble starting. Did not bring out my bike for the whole day on yesterday because of the jalan raya. Come on.. Start man. After much throttling, the bike jumped to life. Rushed down to DSI. I nearly skidded when I entered the carpark. Luckily never fall. Paise man.

~~~Jumping back Thrust~~~
The images above were taken from the website: http://www.geocities.com/~pendekar/amir/amir2.htm, showing the sequence behind administering the jumping back thrust that I have been “kemaruk” about during my active silat days. Darn!! Can’t perfect it..
Timing is important in a jumping back thrust. Must look for the best opportunity when the opponent rushes in while executing a kick (eg: round house kick) before applying it. The sharper and more focused your kick, the deadlier.
However, can't apply it too often because doing a backthrust is kinda predictable unless you have mastered it to a level where you could do it lightning quick. Sigh.. Miss those days man.. :(
~~~Optical Illusion~~~

This is a static picture of a winding snake which looks as if it is moving. I found it cool. For more of optical illusion, pls go to this URL: http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/amos/visualillusion.html

My thoughts - Don't ask for change and make more friends..

One of my colleague mentioned something to me that kinda made sense. It was over change from buying stuff at the canteen.
After he bought drinks for us we asked him out of the usual courtesy, "How much it cost?"
He said,"Nah!! its ok" The interesting part was when he said,"If the money (change) could make me rich then i will take it but if i could gain a friend by not taking it, i would forget about it."
Lesson learnt: "Kalo gi Al-majilis, yang tukang bayar tu jangan la mintak members bayar balik. Kata members. Hiak hiak hiak.."
This article is in respond to my friends at Al-Azhar yesterday who kept asking me to repeat this story. As i believe the internet is the best way to tell the story, he it is. Enjoy!!
